This microscope was made by C. Collins of London and purchased there by Nobel Laureate, Professor William Henry Bragg, while he was on study leave in 1898, for his private use and the enjoyment of his family. He brought it back to Adelaide and inscribed the box with his name and temporary address on South Terrace.
The microscope was donated to the University by physics graduate Dr John Jenkin in May 1997.
